Types of Insurance Claims
In order to have coverage for an insurance claim the damage must have been caused by a sudden and unexpected loss. Below are the types of Insurance Claims that you could be facing a loss for.
Water Damage Claims: Water damage is the result of different types of sudden and unexpected water loss including but not limited to broken pipes, dishwasher leaks, refrigerator leaks, hot water leaks, plumbing damage, AC leaks, hidden pipes in the wall, burst pipes, fire sprinkler leak and/or discharge, Machinery/Boiler/Steam Overflow etc.
Fire Damage: Fire damage claims can be as small as a candle burning a hole in the wall to coming home and your entire home being burnt down and everything in your home destroyed. The damage caused by the fire is a covered loss under your homeowners insurance policy.
Smoke Damage: Sometimes a fire doesn't burn much, however it will smoke a lot. Smoke damage can be just as harmful because of the toxic fumes it produces. Smoke damage can not only cause respiratory problems, but can also affect your home's walls, AC ducts, the property inside your home, etc. which is a covered loss under your homeowners insurance policy.
Mold Damage: Mold is usually the result of water damage that seeped into the walls and flooring, although mold can happen anywhere in your home. The damage can be carried by air, to new locations. Mold claims are typically covered for around $10,000 in damages in most insurance policies due to a sudden and accidental loss. The covered amount can be as high as $50,000 depending on the damage and policy coverage's.
Sink Holes: Your Insurance Company is required to test the damage caused by "Neutral Evaluation" other known as sinkholes, to ensure the sinkhole is legitimately a sinkhole, an insurance claim native to Florida. If the tests prove it to be a sinkhole, it may be a valid insurance claim only if your policy covers sinkhole damage.
Natural Disasters: Damage caused from Hurricane, Flood, Tornados, Earth Quakes and other named perils and known natural disasters may fall under a number of insurance policies. Knowing which policy the damage falls under is crucial in getting the amount of money deserved for the damage.
Theft Claims: Theft is when items from your home have been stolen. Items include the theft of personal property. Items that are stolen and damage from the thieves are all covered under your insurance policy, when filing a theft claim.
Vandalism Claims: When vandals enter your home where the intent is to damage your property, instead of stealing your property, it is considered to be a vandalism insurance claim. This is a separate type of insurance claim covered under your homeowner's insurance policy.
Vehicle through a Building: This type of insurance claim can affect residential properties, business properties and Condo Associations. Filing an insurance claim for a vehicle through your building requires expertise in knowing who the liability falls on for damage done to the structure of the building as well as damage done to the personal property of the building.
Business Interruption: Is an additional claim that can be filed after a loss has occurred and an insurance claim has been filed for that loss. A Business Interruption claim deals with the financial loss to the business from the damage caused by the loss. Monies may be reimbursed for the time that the business had to close its doors or partly shut down the business for the amount of money you can prove you lost.
